In essence, the Sergianist schismatics and the Renovationists—with the aid of the God-fighters—destroyed the canonical True Orthodox episcopate and were complicit in the persecution of the holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia; thereby, they seized churches, monasteries, and holy relics to which they had no right, and—at Stalin’s initiative—illegitimately proclaimed themselves the "Russian Orthodox Church."
The former Metropolitan Sergius (Stragorodsky) is the progenitor of the new Sergian heresy, the essence of which he articulated most fully in his Declaration of 1927. The Declaration called upon the Orthodox to equate the interests of the antichristian regime with the interests of the Church—and to do so not under duress, but with full conviction. The Sergian heresy demands that its followers serve the Antichrist in the very same way a Christian serves Christ: with all one’s heart, soul, mind, and feelings. In other words, the spiritual essence of the Sergian heresy lies in the internal substitution of Christianity with anti-Christianity, and of the Church with an anti-church, while maintaining an outward appearance of Orthodoxy. The pseudo-ecclesiastical organization created by Sergius and the GPU—known as the "Moscow Patriarchate" (MP)—is satanic; its union with the satanic power of the Antichrist is not a forced process, but one that is deeply consistent with the nature of these final times of apostasy...
The clergy of the Moscow Patriarchate constitute a gathering of apostates who have fallen under the anathema of the Church of Christ, just as Her persecutors have.
Anathemas were proclaimed:
- in 1918, by the Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, against the Soviet regime and all its collaborators;
- in 1929, by the Catacomb Church, against the Sergian pseudo-church;
- in 2004, by the Council of the ROCOR(V), against Sergius Stragorodsky and his associates.

Archpriest Alexander Lebedev
What is Sergianism?
Sergianism is the Church’s acknowledgment of the existence of a state whose objective is the destruction of the Church.
It is the Church’s acknowledgment of the authority of a state whose objective is the destruction of the Church.
It is the Church’s cooperation with a state whose objective is the destruction of the Church.
In its essence, Sergianism is a doctrine asserting that for a Church wishing to preserve some semblance of its existence in the face of a state intent on eradicating it, it is permissible—as Sergianist authorities (hierarchs and high-ranking clergy) claim—to lie: to lie blatantly, openly, and shamelessly; to lie both to its own flock and to the entire world.
To lie openly about the extent of the state’s persecution of the Church.
To lie openly about the very existence of state persecution of the Church.
To lie openly by declaring the Church’s martyrs and confessors non-existent.
Sergianism is truly a denial of Christ, who said: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
Sergianism is truly a denial of Christ’s path—the path of the Cross trodden by confessors and martyrs.
Sergianism is the embodiment of the concept that "the end justifies the means"—a concept asserting that any means, including those expressly forbidden by God’s commandments (above all, the commandment "Thou shalt not bear false witness"), are permissible if the goal is to "save the Church." Sergianism is the assertion that we must "save the Church" even through open and shameless lying (that is, by following the path of Satan, the Father of lies), whereas in reality, we ourselves must be saved *within* the Church—saved by standing in the Truth, even amidst persecution, torment, and brutal oppression.
Thus, Sergianism contradicts our Christian duty and must be utterly rejected by Orthodox Christians. There is, and can be, no justification for it.
Those who attempt to justify Sergianism, unfortunately, merely share in the sin of their predecessors.
The sooner this sad chapter in the history of Orthodoxy is left behind, the sooner we can all move forward in proclaiming the eternal Truth of God.
